Therapy Services
Heartland Country Village has a spacious, fully staffed therapy department
which offers Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy. For new admissions in
2006, we had a 69.8% return to home ratio. Our
knowledgeable staff is able to provide individual treatment to meet the needs of
all of our patients. We have experience in
treatment of individuals with broken bones or other injuries from falls or
accidents; limitations following a stroke or heart attack; arthritis, multiple
sclerosis, or other chronic conditions; amputations; Alzheimer's or other
cognitive problems; and disabilities affecting one's ability to function
independently at home.
Quotes from some of our past therapy patients:
"After
I had been exercising with therapy at Heartland Country Village, I noticed that
not only my injured leg but also the other leg and my arms were stronger. I'm so
happy to have been able to get back home. Therapy gave me lots of muscles. I
think that I left Heartland in better condition that some younger people because
I listened to the therapists." Uel Soward

"Therapy was nice. They took good care of me. No complaints." Don Beuthin
"I tell everyone that therapy got me walking again." Thomas Smith
"Everything
was wonderful. Wonderful meals, people, all around. Therapy helped me be able to
get back to my home. I would recommend the therapy at Heartland and have already
done so." Joan Elver

"Therapy got me walking again. I miss the people at
Heartland and would come back if I need therapy again." Patsy Statz
"Therapy was great. It put me back on my feet."
Ronald Calkins
Physical
therapy can help patients improve mobility and relieve pain. It may also
prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from
injuries or disease. Therapists evaluate, test, and measure strength,
range of motion, flexibility, balance, coordination, endurance, and ability to
perform function. After doing the assessment, our therapists develop and
facilitate a course of treatment for each patient, in conjunction with the
patient's physician.
Occupational therapy assists people in improving function to perform
"activities of daily living". Occupational therapists work with people following
mental or physical illness or disability to maximize their skills and abilities.
Therapists focus on making independence a reality and work with patients, family
members, and caregivers to come up with strategies, techniques, or adaptations
so patients can be as independent as possible. A comprehensive home evaluation
is normally completed for discharges to home and adaptive equipment may be
recommended.
Speech-language pathologists evaluate, diagnose, and treat individuals with
speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders. Speech and
language disorders affect one's ability to talk, understand, read, and write.
Swallowing disorders involve the inability to swallow correctly.
Cognitive-communication disorders are the impairment of cognitive processes
including attention, memory, abstract reasoning, awareness, and problem solving.
Our goal at Heartland Country Village is to help every patient achieve his or
her
maximum level of function and independence through customized treatment plans.
We offer comprehensive rehabilitation for patients at any stage of their
recovery from injury or illness. Our Activity and Nursing professionals help
integrate therapeutic procedures into normal daily activities, enhancing the
healing process and the overall experience at Heartland. We are Medicare
and Medicaid certified and accept most insurance plans.
